Current Approved Testers Current Approved Inspectors What to do when Problems Happen Requirements to become a tester:for the fiberglass combat archery ammunition as an experimental weapon (updated 1/3/2010)You must send an e-mail to the DKEM of Experimental Weapons, Capt. Farthegn Rinksson and ask for permission to be included in this program. You can contact him at: jakroy@roadrunner.com. Your e-mail should give your background and experience level in combat archery as well as your group, region etc. Give enough information to explain why you would be a good tester for this project. Per Count Alaric's Pale letter: The tester must report after every event at which he used the experimental arrows/bolts. This report form can be found in a PDF format here . This form should be submitted to the DKEM of Experimental Weapons within 7 days of the event . The following list is subject to change as necessary. It is your responsiblity to check and make sure you have the most recent information. 1. The person MUST be authorized in combat archery and have been regularly active over the past year. 2. The person must ommit to being at least 2-3 events during the year where they can test the fiberglass ammunition. 3. They must have at least a dozen combat archery experimental arrows or bolts to use. You will need a dozen to get a good test, as you can only shoot each one only once before they must be re-inspected. 4. They must know how to inspect their own ammunition on an ongoing basis to find a problem before it happens. They should also be able to explain the full inspection procedure to a marshal if the marshal isn’t familiar with it. 5. They must have a three ring binder with them containing the Society and Middle Kingdom rules (sections will have combat archery info) and copies of the inspection and construction standards from the 35 foot spear. This binder must accompany them when testing is being done. 6. They need to spend time on the 35 Foot Spear website, becoming familiar with the material to be used, construction standards and inspections standards. It is your responsibility to check sources in an ongoing manner to keep current with any changes. After the HOLD is called and the MIC & MIC of combat archery are present. 1.Take the fighter IN THEIR HELMET off the field and get a picture of the arrow penetration provided that this can be done without injuring the fighter. 2. Measure the distance the foam has penetrated through the bars of the grill after the helm is taken off. 3. Take the arrow out of the helmet and get a picture with a gauge/inspection to ensure the arrow was legal. 4. Gauge the helm, particularly where the arrow penetrated, and get a picture. (If possible use a set of calipers to get accurate measurements of the spacing of the bars of each section, end, center and other end.) 5. Ask the archer and the fighter who was hit for feedback on the incident.Remember, even if an arrow does stick in a grill, it doesn't mean either the helm or the arrow were illegal. It's possible (particularly with sil-o-flex shafts) for the bolt/arrow to stick in the helm due to foam compression.
Combat Archery Fiberglass Shaft Experimental weapons1. The width of the UHMW core in the Fathead Blunt is 1 1/4 inch. There shouldn't be a penetration through a legal helm grill. If the rubber molded around the core breaks lose and goes through the bars of a helm use the same procedures as with a foam penetration of an approved head on a sil-o-flex shaft. 2. If you find a shaft in which the Fathead Blunt is off during an after battle ammo inspection, re-check all ammo from that combat archer and document your investigation. 3. If you find a shaft in which the ASGARD APD (Anti Penetration Device) is off during an after battle ammo inspection, re-check all ammo from that combat archer and document your investigation. 4. If you find a fiberglass shaft after the battle pick up that is broken, check the condition of the break (clean break or mushed fibers) and re-check all ammo from that combat archer and document your investigation. After the information is gathered please contact the DKEM of Experimental Weapons as soon as possible. Also please cc a copy to the DKEM for Combat Archery.
