“Maintain Rigid Flexibility”
Combat Archery seems to be one of the most regulated activates in armored combat. This site will attempt to keep pace with the seemingly never-ending changing of combat archery rules and standards. There needs to be a source for the most current information to help combat archers keep their equipment up to date, to keep current with the rules and standards of the moment and to share better ways of doing things.
The 35-Foot Spear site is an ongoing project that probably will never be finished. Many people have worked on the rules and standards to make it as simple and safe as possible. Others have figured out the very best way to put the combat archery arrows and bolts together.
What's New
Pennsic 40 has come and gone. The negotiated rules of no gleaning and limiting of arrows certainly was “interesting”. Let’s hope that fad has now passed. The important thing was there were no injuries or issues involving combat archery and only very minimum changes in the Pennsic Rules involving combat archer from the previous years..
I am constantly asked “When are we going to be allowed to use fiberglass shaft combat archery ammo in our Kingdom?” Presently shafted (fiberglass) ammo may only be used out of Kingdom. I do believe many folks realize that shafted ammo is safe if properly constructed and inspected. I also believe the superiority of this type of ammo is also recognized. There are people still working hard to get the shafted ammo approved.
If you do decide to make up some fiberglass ammo the standards and picture-by-picture construction aids can be found on this site. Just go over to the Fiberglass Ammo Construction section. There is also a section on how to properly inspect this type of ammo.

Comments:
I have requested approval of one minor change involving combat archery ammo. The Society rule states, “All ammunition must have the owner’s name & Kingdom displayed clearly on it.”
The Middle Kingdom addition I am requesting is: All combat archery ammunition must have a printed label (not hand written) with owner’s name & Kingdom, in English, affixed to it. This label must be completely covered with clear wrapping / shipping tape.
Two years ago I lost a fiberglass shaft arrow at the AEthelmearc War Practice.
This year at Pennsic it was found and returned to me. This was possible because I used a printed label and covered it with clear tape. The edges were brown but the label very easy to read.
This is a minor addition / rework to our combat archery ammo and will aid in inspection, plus increase the chances of your lost combat archery ammo make it back to you. Many archers have already done this.
